Week 1 - Writing And News Reporting - Liam Spencer

Image
Hey There! My name is Liam Spencer, I go to LBCC and am a "true" freshman right out of high school. I am a huge basketball head and that has basically been my life for the last 3 years. I really got into it my junior year and I excelled hugely to get a full ride at LB. I don't want this to be my final destination though this is just the middle of the journey as I want to continue my basketball career after my two years at Linn-Benton. That's the main goal for me is too play 4 years of basketball my whole college career. This course with Rob Priewe was really interesting last term so I thought to myself that I should take it again for fun and just see how it goes. If I'm being honest I don't see myself excelling in news reporting but it is defiantly nice to learn different things and get better at those things. I'm Majoring in AAOT as I want to get a criminal justice bachelors degree in my 4 years of college. I'm most interested in learning how to inte

November 27th, 2023. Captured this picture of my cat Tiny. It’s more of a plain photo, but I just love the pose that she is in. I feel like it’s a photo that can be something to help promote cats, like on their food, or toys , or a commercial. Tiny is a Beautiful cat and with the position she’s laying in it makes it a great shot.  Took this photo a couple months ago, unfortunately it was the only ducks game I was able to attend this year, and at this time I wasn’t aware of the rules of photography to get the best photos that I could get. But I still really like this shot. You can see the two fans below cheering on the ducks. The view of the field is also outstanding with all the color and the whole field. You can just tell from the photo that it is such a nice day outside and it was.   November 12th , 2023. This is a shot captured of Kadin Pruitt on a hike in Multnomah, Oregon. The hike was called Abiqua falls. It’s a really nice place and it’s very recommended as it is a top hiking tr

Steve McCurry Photo  Robert Dinero. New York City, 2010  This was my favorite photo taken by Steve McCurry. He does a ton of mugshots it's like his main preference on photos by how he takes them and even if you look up Steve that's all you'll see. Just outstanding mugshots. The reason why I picked this photo is because out of all the people he takes photos of, it's never really anyone famous. The fact that he took a photo of famous actor Robert Dinero really makes me like the photo a whole lot more because of the fact that I know Dinero. One of the best actors of all time and Steve was able to capture this really good shot of him. I just like how all I see is just random people McCurry takes mugshots of so when I see someone, I know it almost makes me relate to it because I know Dinero. I love how McCurry takes his mugshot and how clear they turn out, its a truly beautiful photo and I'm glad I chose this photo out of all of the other photos Steve McCurry has taken.

Salem Capitals The Salem capitals are a Semi-Professional basketball team that play in the TBL (The Basketball League) That is a basketball league filled with bunch of teams all around the country. The Capitals are in the western conference with 10 other teams. There are 4 other conferences in the entire league. East conference, Midwest conference, central conference and then the western conference. The capitals are a relatively brand-new team as they are only going into their third season this year. The season officially is underway in March 2024. The "Caps" play down at the Salem Armory located in downtown Salem. They are currently getting ready for the season to start up. Right now, they attended different events around Salem and try to really get involved in the community. The most fascinating things about the Capitals in my opinion are the things they do in the offseason with their community. I attended two different events that they were gathered at such as the Garten s

I chose completely different photos from each other this week. Photo taken Nov. 27th, 2023. As soon as I saw this ice cream shop “Hasty Freez” I had to take a photo of it. I feel like it’s a super rare place and it’s like a building that you see in movies from like the 1970’s. It has that feel to it where it looks like a super old building in a newer time. That reasoning right there is why it made me excited to take this photo. It’s a truly nice place and it gives me that old fashioned vibe.    Photo taken Nov.27th, 2023. I have been meaning to take a photo of this clock tower for as long as I've lived In Oregon. I first moved to Oregon two years ago and the first place I lived was Albany for about a month. Out of everything in Albany this tower stuck out to me right away and I never forgot about it. The way it looks is so flashy and it makes it stand out to everyone who drives by. That's what it was like for me, It's like a clock tower you would see in a movie. It in a n

Oct.27 2023. Tim Mollerstrom is the Facilities operator at Linn-Benton Community College. I asked Tim some questions on what he does to get a better understanding of the day in the life of a Facilities Operator. Tim stocks and takes care of all the accessories and equipment that every athlete at LB needs. He's responsible of all the daily operations that go on in the activities center and he is to make sure everything is in check and going right. Tim does a great job at what he does and Linn-Benton is lucky to have him. First thing time does in the morning is he comes in and makes sure all the locker rooms are unlocked for the athletes to start their day. He then works at his desk checking all the things he needs to get done In a full days work. At the end of the day he checks every room in the athletic center and makes sure they are all supplied with the inventory that they need for the next day to begin.

Artwork from Western Oregon. Donated to Linn-Benton English Department in 2011. The artist of this artwork is Mary Harden. Beautiful piece of work over in the North Santiam building of Linn-Benton. Nice Fall day at Linn-Benton Community college on November 3rd, 2023.  The beautiful colors of the trees in the background on this photo really make it pop. The freshly cut grass is a great addition in the photo. Linn-Benton Community College, down in the Calapoota center this nice piece of art work catches your eyes as soon as you step foot in the building. It’s a wonderful piece done by Yannie Alvarez. It was in honor of those who passed away while migrating to the Mexico/Us border.
